Everything You Need To Know Before Your First Pilates Class

What Happens in a Reformer Pilates Class?

A typical reformer Pilates class at Pilates House Lemont is 50 minutes. You’ll move through a series of exercises on the Reformer that target your full body with a strong focus on abdominal control, spine mobility, balance, and breath work.

At Pilates House Lemont, classes are intentionally small with only six reformers in the studio. That intimate setting means our instructors can actually see you, correct your form, and make sure you’re getting the most out of each class. It’s a completely different experience from a packed class at a big-box gym.

Do I Need Experience to Try Reformer Pilates?

If you’re new to Pilates entirely, start with our “Intro to Reformer” class. This class is specifically designed to help you learn the basics, get comfortable with the reformer, and build the confidence to jump into our group classes. There’s no expectation that you’ll walk in knowing everything—your instructor will guide you through every step.

What Are the Benefits of Reformer Pilates?

This is a tough question to answer…there are so many good ones! Some of our favorites include:

  • Core strength that actually translates to daily life

  • Better posture and reduced back pain

  • Improved flexibility without static stretching

  • Low-impact workout safe for your joints

What Should I Wear and Bring?

Keep it simple. Wear fitted, comfortable workout clothes—nothing too loose, as baggy fabric can get caught in the machine. Grip socks are a must (they help you stay secure on the reformer), and you’ll want to bring a water bottle.

If you do not own a pair of grip socks, we sell them for purchase in the studio.
